“Dear friends.
After some considerations The Thing wants to announce to take a break. Change is in the air and change is the only certain thing in life.
Right now we don’t know what the future of the band will bring but let us celebrate the past 20 years of joy and holy madness together.
Life and music will go on!”

Mats, Paal and Ingebrigt stay active as ever – feel free to contact me about the following projects:Ingebrigt Håker Flaten and Paal Nilssen-Love on tour with David Murray, Mats Gustafsson with Fire!, Fire! Orchestra, THE END and Anguish – to name a few, Paal Nilssen-Love with Large Unit and New Brazilian Funk, Ingebrigt Håker Flaten with Atomic.

Anguish

Posted on by

Mats Gustafsson is involved in yet another new project: Anguish. This powerhouse, inter-generational group brings together an unlikely gathering of members of the New Jersey-based experimental hip-hop group Dälek (electronic musician and vocalist Will Brooks, guitarist-keyboardist Mike Mare), the Swedish free jazz group Fire! (tenor saxophonist Mats Gustafsson, drummer Andreas Werliin) and the classic ‘70s German krautrock band Faust (keyboardist and 68-year-old founding member Hans Joachim Irmler).
Debut album on RareNoiseRecords. From the press release: “Anguish stands as a hard-hitting manifesto for the next evolution in the hip-hop legacy. The dark, impossibly intense dirges, industrial noise onslaughts and banshee-like free jazz wailing heard throughout Anguish could be an imposing soundtrack for a dystopian, post-apocalyptic future.”
Some availability June/July/August, 2019 – or one-offs.

Hedvig Mollestad Trio

Posted on by

New on the roster: Hedvig Mollestad Trio from Norway.
Hedvig Mollestad Thomassen guitar, Ellen Brekken bass, Ivar Loe Bjørnstad drums.
The band’s eclectic mix of influences ranges from Black Sabbath and Jimi Hendrix to John Coltrane and contemporary jazz and metal music. Whether your heart lies with the jazz stuff or you like the heavy beats of good ol’ rock’n’roll, the trio has become a live favorite.
On tour in Europe summer and early fall 2019.
